I’m Cuckoo For Barns!
With my second design (will tell you about that soon!) in the works, it’s time to get number three started. When I asked for suggestions I was pleasantly surprised that a barn cuckoo clock was such a popular choice.
This quintessential American barn will have a fence and animals around it, and whatever other farm-ish accouterments work. Can’t wait to see what the folks at the factory come up with for the animation!
Help Make a Decision
My question for you is in regards to a thought my step mother Jayne had as I drew out the design for her. She suggested I have “See Rock City” stenciled on the roof. Great idea! Trouble, is I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing, so many people won’t get it. Her other suggestion in that case was to put “Chew Mail Pouch” on the roof, as that may be more widely recognized.
So, I’m putting out to you:
1. “See Rock City”
2. “Chew Mail Pouch” or
3. Nothing, a blank roof?
What do you think?
Please leave a comment below.
Thanks for your input!

I like See Rock City
I vote for #3 – Nothing on the roof. The first two choices seemed very regional to me. I was not familiar with either one. The only recurring sign I can remember driving through rural areas in the upper midwest is the one enticing you to visit the Wall Drugstore!
I own one of your Quilter’s Cuckoo Clocks and love it. It has “Shop Hop Today” on it and that is a universal slogan for quilters.
I think it is too regional. Maybe Burma Shave?
Blank is not as interesting but the references may be confusing.
Maybe “Barn Dance Tonight” ?
That’s a great idea for the front of the clock Frances!
I like barn dance tonight
See Rock City for me — not so much a regional thing as a generation thing. Most folks under 40 won’t understand, but depending on what your target market is it may not matter.
Good point. It s a generational thing. Which probably means it’s time for it to come back around!
Love the Barn idea! Also love, Chew Mail Pouch……However, I’ll remain open!
Thanks Jodie!!!

Definitely “See Rock City”…my Grandad used to chew tobacco and it’s icky! Good remembrances of Grandad, but not of the tobacco!
Definitely See Rock City. I’m an Atlanya girl moved to PA and I was tickled to see that barn. I remember the barn roofs painted with See Rock City as a girl.
How about “Hard Rock Hoedown”.
Mail Pouch is more widely known
I vote for a plain roof–#3 I am from Texas, and the other two are too “local”!
#3. The first 2 choices are very regional. I’ve heard of chew but would be adverse to purchase it with that on it. The other, I’ve never heard of. Are you going to put a quilt block on the barn?
Kelly, I’m going to put Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs on it. My idea with the new designs is that I started with a clock for quilters and am now branching out into other interests. So I wasn’t planing on a quilt.
That said, I am looking at customizing clocks myself, giving people options. So the barn would come from Germany wit the animals, etc. and I could add the painting to the roof, a quilt, a sign for the front that says “Kelly’s Menagerie”, etc. I’d give specific options.
Now I’m working on how to make those things, or get them made.
It’s interesting how the business is evolving, and so fun since you all are helping me figure out what it wants to be. It’s just like making a quilt!
